ATTENTION! THIS MOD IS NOT SUPPOSED TO PROMOTE ANY IDEOLOGY! | This is the newest version of the Axis Player mod for Call of Duty: World at War. The idea of the mod is to change all Allied forces (Americans and Russians) into Axis forces (Germans and Japanese) and vice versa in order to reverse the campaign. I would like to point out that I was not able to change everything, I may patch the mod again in the future. I hope everyone can understand that and still have some fun. It was tested in single-player, co-op and zombies and all game modes work - the crashes were rare, it should work just fine in most cases. Please check out the 'Special thanks to' section as well to see all the wonderful people that helped me! | ATTENTION! It is possible to get a multiplayer ban for using the modified binaries - thanks to CptWesley for the info.
Installation (for both the Steam version and the DVD version with the latest patch - 1.7):
ATTENTION! Since a lot of people often asked me how to install the mod, ignoring the installation instructions, please focus during the installation process since I am tired of such questions. It is really not that hard. It is recommended to use the standard English version of WaW.
1. Go to ***YOUR HARD DRIVE NAME***\Steam\SteamApps\Common (if you have the Steam version) or to ***YOUR HARD DRIVE NAME***\Activision (if you have the DVD version with the latest patch - 1.7).
2. Put the 'Call of Duty World at War' folder in the 'Common' folder and let it overwrite (if you have the Steam version) or put the 'Call of Duty - World at War' folder in the 'Activision' folder and let it overwrite (if you have the DVD version with the latest patch - 1.7).
3. Go to C:\Users\***YOUR USERNAME***\AppData\Local (this step is the same for both the Steam version and the DVD version with the latest patch - 1.7) [you may have to turn on hidden folders in order to see the 'AppData' folder - in order to find out how to do that turn on your Internet browser and type 'How to show hidden folders on Windows ***' where '***' is the name of your system].
4. Put the 'Activision' folder in the 'Local' folder (this step is the same for both the Steam version and the DVD version with the latest patch - 1.7).
5. Launch the game.
6. Go to 'Options & controls' and change the following things:
- go to 'Graphics' and set 'Specular map' to 'No'
- go to 'Texture settings' and set 'Normal map resolution' to 'High'
- after that set 'Specular map resolution' to 'Low'
- go to 'Game options' and set 'Subtitles' to 'No'
7. Go to 'Mods' and turn on the 'Axis Player Expanded Edition 1.4' mod.
8. Finally, you can play the game and enjoy the mod! If you did everything correctly, that is.
ATTENTION! Due to the sheer size of the mod it might crash while loading a mission. Minimizing the game might also cause a crash. Please launch the game again and try to play with the mod once more if that happens.

Thank you!
Excellent work in every sense of the word. Well done
Thank you for your kind words, I really do appreciate that!
Berlin bleibt deutsch!
Now you can recapture it!
Cute mod man but if you have falschrimjagers models can you please add fg42 in some missions where are falschrims
Thank you! The FG 42 can be seen used by the friendly soldiers (including the Fallschirmjäger) in the 'Ring of Steel' mission, this is the only mission where I could do that if I recall correctly. Some friendly AI in that mission can spawn with a K98k or FG 42.
I have to say I was sceptical, but this has been fantastic so far, I never thought I'd see a proper Axisplayer for WaW yet here it is!
Thank you!
could the Russians have more variations? like the red guards, commissar and winter skins?
I can't promise anything, but maybe in the future.
This is great work! I've always dreamed of commanding the Pz IV in the Blood and Iron mission
Thank you! Now you can do just that.
Just saying I found a way to make Reznov and other Russian characters to speak Germans, I switched the Steam Game version to German and copied all the localised sound files containing the voiceover into the axisplayerexpandededition.iwd. It worked pretty well with the immersion (for people who don't speak German anyway Xd). This way even the Japanese faction we play as would speak German, at least dude shouting Germans in Japanese uniform fighting against American would feel a bit less weird than Americans in Japanese uniform lol.
This is the IWD file with the sound file I added: Mega.nz
Thanks! I tested the German lines from the German version of the game, but they were too quiet in my opinion.
But it helps a lot to immerse in the role of a German soldiers. Btw, would it be possible to change the mission description in the selection menu? I’m not sure how
Well, I know some German and I know what they are saying plus they have a very strong fake Russian accent :D But I know what you mean.
It is possible to change the selection menu, but I do not know how. I only know that it is possible.
May there be any voice over can be done for Japanese..? If that so it will be awesome...
Updated link for v1.3 Mega.nz
btw the japanese soldiers all bearing prefecture names bothers me to no end so I replaces them. just gotta put it out here for people who might want it.

I'm absolutely confused about the installation process. If there is a way someone could help me I'd really appreciate it.
Please tell me exactly what's wrong and I'll try to help you.
I can't find the files that I'm supposed to rename.
They are located in the main CoD WaW game folder.
I've been trying to figure this out for weeks and I just can't find the files you need me to rename and move around. I downloaded the game off Steam and I'm trying to follow the Steam instructions. Is there anyone who can physically show me how to do this over discord or something?
I can show you how to do it, please write a PM to me here on ModDB.
i seem to have same problem ,im pretty sure i did everything right but the game wont open whe I click on it ,there is a circle spininglike when you noemally open the game , but after the spinning circle dissapears , the game isnt open 。 i really nedd help , been trying this for a WEEK and its driving me nuts
I would try deleting the game and all the files and reinstalling it again.
i love it
as a german myself i enjoy forcing the russians out of my country again XD
i just get confused all the time when reznov talks about killing germans
i wonder if there is a way to shut him up ?
currently i'm handling that by just muting all voices but that's not the best solution ofc . . . .
(also i really love the tank battle but some tanks are stronger than others i mean the ones who were tigers and now are regular t34 would have been better/more realistic if they were IS 1/2 XD also i would have loved driving a panther actually but well can't have everything i guess)
Thank you!
Well, the thing with Reznov and all voices in general is problematic, the mod would need some voice actors in order to change that.
I know, but there is only one Russian tank model in the game. The only drivable German tank is the Panzer IV, so that cannot be changed as well.
well currently i'm coping with the german dub version from the guy above it's actually not so bad since the voices are quiet enough for you to ignore XD
still bothersome though when they talk about killing germans cos like i said it just confuses you
also the scenes where the russians are speaking german like when you kill them in at the subway entrance or when you infiltrate their command post
i'd love a way to just remove all those inadequate audios
(what makes matters worse for me as a german is i understand everything they say XD ... maybe that's why it bothers me so much)
I can fully understand you - I had a similar experience in Arma 3 Contact DLC where soldiers from a fake country of Livonia spoke Polish with such a bad accent I just wanted to mute them all. I might try removing some of the sounds and dialogues from CoD WaW.
still awesome mod
makes a whole lot of fun
thanks a bunch !
I LIKE it!
I only play WW2 games if I get to choose my own side.
Thank you!
Very fun, but a couple of things for a possible patch in the future and from what ive noticed while playing.
1. Change opening mission text to an alternative-fictional battle. Seems odd to play on the same islands when you could rename them something else (Makin Atoll to Guam, Peleliu missions to Hawaii, Okinawa missions to China(as like a final battle in the Sino-Japanese war) etc), idk just what i thought what cool.
2. I have crashes sometimes when on the loading screen going into mission, maybe just on my end tho.
3. Axis Roebuck and Sullivan are portrayed as Japanese officers but carry rifles, these should be type 100s. Pvt. "Japanese Name" may get an SMG but the Cpt. does not?! Giving your platoon a variety of weapons can make the game feel more chaotic
4. The player is the only one in the Pacific missions with automatic weapons, few friendly bots will have an smg but i never saw type 99s outside of the one you start with. Some enemies carried Thompsons, BARs, and the M1919 though which actually got bloody on my end lol.
Like I said, very fun mod despite the flaws I had on my end.
Thank you!
1. My plan was to leave the original battles, I just reversed them.
2. This might be a problem on your end - which version do you use, DVD one or Steam one?
3. They carry rifles because the officer models have rifle pouches.
4. Type 99 LMG has a problem - bots are extremely accurate when they use it. I did some testing - friendly Japanese AI with Type 99 LMG was able to wipe most enemy soldiers in mere seconds. I wanted the player to kill the enemies - bots are just an addition, that is why only the player is an LMG gunner. Most Japanese infantry in WW2 had Arisakas and that is shown here as well. Some friendly soldiers use Type 100 SMGs, though.
I use the steam version.
Another point-out. Some pacific missions you get an Arisaka, but no bayonet, is this a bug I got or intentional?
Thanks!
If you use the Steam version you may try verifying the game files and if that does not help reinstalling the game.
If I recall correctly the Arisaka without bayonet is given to the player in the second mission ("Little Resistance") - the lack of a bayonet is intentional.
I have a problem when I turn on the game, my screen stays black and doesn't load.
Do you use the Steam version or the DVD version of the game?
DVD version, no steam
Did you follow the instructions for the DVD version correctly?
You can try reinstalling the game and installing the mod once again after doing that.
Thanks, now I can fight for the right side!
You're welcome!
Really nice work, especially since this game has aged quite a bit.
However, the German voices are a bit... not from a so fluent speaker. If you are interested, I could help you out on this for an update.
Keep up the great work, and stay safe during these times.
Thank you - I did not change the voices, someone posted the audio from the German version of the game, but it still does not make any sense. The best option would be to find some Germans and Japanese and record new lines, but that would be hard.
fur das faterland!
Thank you!
